Check domain registration details instantly. View registrar, creation date, expiry date, nameservers, and privacy protection status.
What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is a public protocol that stores registration information for domain names. It includes the registrar, registration and expiry dates, nameservers, and (unless privacy protection is enabled) the registrant's contact details. ICANN requires registrars to maintain accurate WHOIS data for all domains.
Why check WHOIS data?
WHOIS lookups help verify domain ownership, check if a domain is about to expire, identify the registrar for transfer or dispute purposes, and detect potential phishing domains. Security teams use WHOIS data to investigate suspicious domains and assess whether a site is trustworthy.
What is WHOIS privacy protection?
WHOIS privacy (also called domain privacy or proxy protection) replaces the registrant's personal contact information with the registrar's proxy details. This prevents spam, identity theft, and unwanted solicitation. Most registrars offer it for free or a small fee. If privacy is not enabled, your name, email, and address may be publicly visible.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is this WHOIS lookup tool free?+
Yes, completely free. No signup or credit card required. Look up WHOIS data for any public domain instantly.
Why does WHOIS show "Not available" for some fields?+
Some TLDs (country-code domains like .de or .uk) use non-standard WHOIS formats or restrict public access to registration data. GDPR regulations have also led many registrars to redact personal information from WHOIS responses.
How do I renew an expiring domain?+
Log in to your registrar's dashboard (shown in the Registrar field above) and look for a renewal option. Most registrars send email reminders 30-90 days before expiry. If your domain has already expired, you may still be able to recover it during the redemption grace period, though this often costs extra.
